Interview with Pearl Christine

Hello, fellow writers and readers and generally lovers of words!

Today I have a special interview with a friend, Pearl Christine. Pearl launched her new blog on October 14th, 2022. With her previous blog, Pearl helped me with my blog tour, and I’m excited to return the favor. I also have a special schedule update...

So, without further ado, here is the interview!

Before we begin, tell us a little about yourself!

Hello, everyone and thank you so much for having me, Agnès! I’m a middle-grade historical and contemporary fiction write who writes for Jesus first, and people second. When I’m not writing, you can find me lost in the woods with my camera, in the middle of another creative project, spending time with my seven siblings, running, or writing and decorating letters.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

I gather inspiration from everywhere around. . . it could be something one of my siblings said, a photo I took, or something I saw. I find inspiration everywhere I look, and it’s just being able to slim down that inspiration so it can work in my writing.

What are you currently working on?

I’m currently working on prepping a middle-grade contemporary novel titled The Summer at Sunset Bay for NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) - Here’s the blurb.

This summer, Eleanor Miller has a wonderful surprise: A whole month staying with her aunt in her big bed and breakfast, right on the beach in Sunset Bay, along with her older sister, Lily. Soon, they both are discovering the joys of a summer at Sunset Bay, from sailing and swimming in the ocean to walking on the boardwalks and attending day camp, both of the girls are thrilled. But the best discovery of all for Eleanor is meeting Melissa and Gina Douglas, two sisters who quickly become her first best friends.

Gina wants to be brave. More than not being scared to go out into the waves or something small like that but true and real bravery. Melissa needs to learn how to be humble, more than not jumping up and down when you win, or something petty like that, but be honestly humble. Eleanor wants to be different. Not just wearing her hair differently than others, but to be truly extraordinary.

Will the girls be able to find the key to unlock the answers to their problems before the summer is over and Eleanor goes back to her home? One thing’s for sure though: It will be a summer the girls never forget.

What is your favorite quote from your writing?

Ah, there are a lot of favorites I have, but if you’re looking for something shorter and not a whole scene, it’d be this:

“I’d run away if I wasn’t too scared to. . .”

What is your favorite quote, in general?

I’m a big fan of quotes, so there are quite a few that I love.

“Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it is thinking of yourself less.”

Or this one. . .

“Starting is easy. Persistence is an art.”

— A German proverb

Who is your favorite character in your writing?

How can I choose? I love Gina Douglas from my main project right now - she’s a really dreamy and sweet character who struggles with a lot of the same things I have. I see a lot of myself in her. <3

If you could choose one character to meet, who would it be?

One of my characters or of anyone else’s? If it was another author’s, it’d probably be Holly from Holly’s Heart by Beverly Lewis and for my own, it’d be Alice Benson, from my historical fiction project.

What’s one tip you’d give to any new writer?

Don’t wait for inspiration to strike. Don’t wait for that ‘perfect writing moment’ to come. Don’t wait. Just dive in and write. Just write. Even if you don’t think you can, even if it takes an hour to write 100 words, all you have to do is write. Push through. And those days that are filled with no inspiration or motivation. . . they’ll fade. And you’ll find the joy in writing again. But don’t wait for writing to be fun. Don’t wait for inspiration.

Writers write. So write.
